Who We Are.

The New Tecumseth Girls Hockey Association (NTGHA) is an OWHA sanctioned hockey association catering to Girls Minor Hockey in South Simcoe, Ontario. Our association is whole heartedly dedicated to the sport of ice hockey and the development of our players. Formerly known as the Clearview Girls Hockey Association (CGHA), we have been serving South Simcoe County for more than 30 years with skills development, competitive hockey programs, and a program that is truly about the players and the sport. We welcome all girls to play and learn with us!

Where We Are.

South Simcoe municipalities are situated at the northern boundary of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and therefore generally have a closer socio-economic association with the GTA. South Simcoe is also within the Toronto commuter belt as it is home to a relatively high proportion of people commuting to the GTA. South Simcoe is home to five municipalities, including: the Town of Innisfil, the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio, the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, the Township of Essa and the Town of New Tecumseth (which includes: Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham).

Our home arenas are located in Alliston, Tottenham, Beeton, and Bradford, Ontario.

Founded as The King Cavalry, the forerunner to The King Royals, was formed in 2007 with a Bantam A Team and a Midget A team. They downsized to a U18 or Midget team only in 2010, and continued to operate as a single-team organization until 2018. During that time, The King Cavalry distinguished themselves as one of the best U18 teams in Ontario. In 2015, they were crowned the U18BB Provincial Champions. In 2018, The King Cavalry came under different direction and was re-branded to The King Royals. Under the direction of Head Coach Matt Weir, The King Royals flourished for the next two seasons as a U18A team. Nearing the end of the second season, riding the success of coach Weir's hockey-acumen and leadership, The King Royals faced being derailed by the Covid 19 pandemic. When many smaller minor hockey organization either gave-in to the limitations of the pandemic or ceased operations all together, coach Weir kept the The King Royals alive. Piecing together players and ice-times from all kinds of different places and arenas, along with his dedicated staff, he managed to keep The King Royals relevant and playing, and dodge many of the limitations of the pandemic. Emerging from the pandemic, The King Royals boldly set out as a U18AA team. For the next three seasons, The King Royals competed in the OWHA as a U18AA before being encouraged to accept a plan to move into The New Tecumseth Girls Hockey Association and become part of their new High-Performance Program. The era of the King Royals had run its' course but not without great success.

In addition to providing an opportunity for dozens of young women to play elite-level hockey, The King Royals, in just six seasons of operation – two of which were severely hampered by a pandemic - manager to prepare and move-up three players to Women's Junior Hockey (McNamara, Porter, Mitchell). In addition, and more importantly, no less than seven players earned Usports and NCAA scholarships, with four going on the play NCAA DIII hockey (Lindsay, Graham, Jones, White) and one reaching the highest level, NCAA DI hockey (Elvidge).  As well, as two others committing to continue in other sports at University (Pludra, Pipher). These commitments are located in the Announcements portion of the home page.

As the 2023-2024 season got underway, The King Royals embraced the open arms of the New Tecumseth Girls Hockey Association (NTGHA) and gratefully moved forward, welcoming the first steps into the new High-Performance Program at NTGHA as The New Tecumseth Royals. With The Royals eyeing the horizon and joining three new AA teams to build upon the legacy of The King Royals and the vision of the NTGHA, the newest incarnation of this team was presented for the 2024–2025 season as The New Tecumseth IceCats and played as part of their new high-performance AA girls hockey program.
