STORMFEST UPDATE!
This weekend the Royals team took a big step forward in the development and pursuit of a championship.
Starting the tournament Wednesday night, up first, the North York Storm and number one team in the province. We battled hard and went into the second period down 2-1. As we continued to battle the Storm were able to capitalize and go to the third with a 5-1 lead. In the third, we came out hard and continued to try and battle back but ended the game 5-1.
Friday was a different story for our girls as we had 2 games on tap, Brantford and Caledon. In the Brantford game we got off to a great start and held a 3-1 lead. Brantford was able to battle back through some powerplay time and tie the game 3-3. In the third we were able to take a 4-3 advantage but again Brantford was able to find one to tie it up. At the end of the game, we had several chances but just missed and the game ended 4-4 with Brantford.
Caledon was ready but so were we. The Royals jumped out to a 2-0 start and held that through most of the game. A real goaltender battle the game was back and forth but with 2 min left Caledon was able to add 1 to make it 2-1. The Royals tightened up the defensive zone and were able to hang on to a 2-1 victory.
Our last round robin game was a winner play in the finals. East Ottawa gave us a real test and battle. After scoring first and adding another shortly after the Royals were able to take a 2-0 lead into the second. The EO Stars were able to get one back to make it 2-1 in the second. Shortly after the Royals responded with another tally and made it 3-1. With minutes left and a pulled goalie, the Royals were able to earn a spot in the Finals vs North York once again.
Sunday is always where players want to be! Storm vs Royals. Everyone was ready for a big battle with the winner taking home gold. With the Royals battling hard the Storm took a 2-0 lead into the second. They were able to stretch out the lead again and make it a 5-0 heading into the third. Not giving up the Royals dug deep and were able to get some great chances but were unable to capitalize. North York wins 5-0.
All in all, it was a great weekend for the Royals going 2-2-1 battling hard and winning the silver medal. A big step was taken by the Royals to play in a finals. As we continue the process, the experience gained this weekend will help as we move forward through the rest of the year. Up next will be Nov 25, 6:15 pm vs. Etobicoke @ Ford Performance Centre and Sunday morning 10:30 am vs North Bay @ Trisan Centre in Schomberg.
Congrats to all the players and coaching staff for a great weekend of hockey.
